About Me

Julia Tehovnik, LCPC

  • I take a client-centered approach to therapy. While I have the education and training to facilitate therapy, my clients are the experts on their lives.

I emphasize a holistic approach, which for me means addressing the client as a whole person - the sum of their experiences and intersecting identities. We’ll take a closer look at all of the cultural factors that make up who you are - race, gender, sexuality, relationships, ethnicity, health, education, socioeconomic status, neurodiversity, spirituality and religion, geographical location, politics, and so much more. I want to get to know who you are to help you grow into who you want to be!

More specifically, my theoretical approach includes an eclectic mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and post-modern modalities.

  • I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois and have been practicing since 2018. I have been providing clinical supervision to provisionally licensed clinicians since 2021. I am also a National Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors.

I graduated with a Masters in Counseling with a specialization in Sport and Health Psychology from Adler University in Chicago, IL in 2016 and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from Adrian College in Adrian, MI in 2014.

  • I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and I’ve been living in Chicago, IL since 2014. I basically grew up in an ice rink as a competitive figure skater and played lacrosse and field hockey in high school.

I played NCAA Division III lacrosse and sustained multiple concussions as a goalie, which led me to shift my career goals to study the interactions between physical and mental health. I have my own personal mental health journey with anxiety, depression, and disordered eating, but this therapist sees her own therapist regularly!

I’ve cultivated my love of music upon discovering house music in Chicago and regularly attend live music events and festivals.
